Nothing Goes to Waste: How Tallow Skincare Started at Our Farm
The Question Nobody Else in the Aisle Can Answer
There's a step in our process that most customers never see. It's not glamorous. It's not photogenic. It's rendering, and it's where our skincare line actually begins.
Pick up a jar of tallow balm at a big box store and try asking where the fat came from. Which farm. Which animal. Whether it was rendered the same week it was harvested or shipped in from a supplier three states away, mixed into a vat with tallow from a dozen other sources.
You won't get an answer, because most brands can't give you one. The tallow was purchased. Somewhere. From someone. That's usually where the story ends.
Ours doesn't end there, because ours doesn't start there.
One Herd, One Loop
Every steer that becomes FarmTable beef is raised on our farm in Batesville, Indiana. When it's time, we harvest what we've raised ourselves, and the fat doesn't get thrown away or sold off to some anonymous buyer. It gets rendered, purified, and turned into tallow ...the same tallow that becomes our skincare line's base.
No outside suppliers. No blending fat from farms we've never set foot on. The same cattle that fed your family this month are the reason our balm exists at all.
We didn't set out to build a skincare brand. We set out to stop wasting a resource that generations of farmers before industrial food processing understood better than we do now: fat isn't a byproduct. It's a co-product. Our grandfather didn't have the luxury of throwing away anything an animal gave him, and honestly, neither do we .... not when it's this good.
Pure, On Purpose
Because we raise the cattle and control what happens to every part of the animal, we control what goes into the jar. Our tallow skincare is made with pure, rendered tallow and nothing we can't explain. No mystery fillers, no synthetic stand-ins, no ingredient list that reads like a chemistry exam. When you can trace a product back to a literal, physical animal we raised ourselves, you don't need to hide behind additives to make it feel "clean." It just is.
That's the difference between a skincare brand that sources tallow and a family that raises the cattle behind it. We're the second kind. We were the second kind before it was a marketing angle; it was just what made sense to a family that didn't believe in waste.
Farm to Face, Literally
"Farm to table" gets thrown around a lot, usually loosely. We'd like to make the case for "farm to face" being just as literal for us. The same herd. The same three generations who've been doing this since 1959, now just doing it for your skin as well as your dinner table.
It's not a separate story with a nicer name. It's the same one, all the way through.
